There are certainly flies that like to lay their eggs in fungus. I have seen the larvae. Perhaps these are the adult forms.

Almost. But, yes, it was enriched. Put it down to artistic licence. If I were to dream about damsons, then they would be exactly that colour.

Hmmm interesting David. Might be worth taking samples of both the mushroom and the insects for analysis.

I am currently using this to clean up raw bibliographic data. It is really good. Version 1.1 has been released and so far it seems pretty stable.

Hi David

The simplest way is to get a large pot and cover the plant with it for the requisite number of hours. Total darkness is best. Black polythene works well too. Most of these crops need a 12 hour day (actually it's the dark hours that count) or less to flower. Let the plants grow till about midsummer, or at least until they're big and vigorous, then cover them up from about 7 or 8 in the evening until a similar time in the morning. About a month to six weeks should be enough to initiate flowering. Remove the pot and the plants should then flower and possibly set seed. An alternative would be to set up some grow lights in a darkened room.

Good luck

Hi Owen,
Strangely, I was just reading your blog an hour or so ago, about Mashua. Looks rather pretty. I have never done plant breeding before, but I would be interested in doing what you suggest, which is to breed the early flowering variety with the late flowering crop variety. How can a plant's perception of day length be altered so that they flower at the same time, I wonder.

Glad you're better anyway,

David.
